In April 1947 the Lorenzo Theatre in San Lorenzo, California, opened with a flurry of excitement. Attending guests dressed in the height of fashion to view the opening of "Dark Mirror" starring Olivia DeHaviland. In the 1950s the theatre hosted Saturday morning "kiddie matinees". During the summer the Lorenzo Theatre gave free Wednesday movie passes to school safety patrols. Costume parties were held for the community on Halloween. From time to time live performances graced the theatre's stage. The Lorenzo Theatre was the first theatre in northern California in which audience members could perform on-stage during screenings of the "Rocky Horror Picture Show".
